PSECCO event/opportunity
Join PSECCO at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting for a talk focused on challenges and needs identified by the polar early career researcher community.
Are you an early career polar researcher going to the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting?
Join us on the evening of Thursday, November 16 from 5pm to 7pm MT at the Rayback Collective (2775 Valmont Rd. Boulder, CO) to meet other polar early career (and other career) scientists in the region!
Participants will have an opportunity for direct conversation and Q&A on the topic of engagement with scientific coordination bodies.
Participants will discuss the differences and similarities between working as a professional track research scientist versus as a tenure-track/tenured faculty member. Sinéad will share her reflections on working in a variety of research and academic positions over the last 15 years.
Participants will discuss how to broaden the impact of their science, identify effective education and outreach activities that are aligned with the science and participants interest, talk about the broader impacts review criterion from NSF and strategies on how to develop a strong broader impacts plan and develop a draft for their own work.
What is NSF’s Office of Polar Programs (also known as OPP)? How do you make your polar science proposal as NSF-savvy as possible? How do you best describe your broader impacts? What is cutting edge in data management? How do you identify the best program for application? How do you access available education and outreach funds?
Participants will converse about science in the public sector of civil service. Caitlyn will prompt discussion and answer questions informed by her research perspective as an employee of the executive branch of the United States federal government.
Wanting to know more about non-tenure track faculty jobs and what opportunities exist for polar scientists beyond academia? The Polar Science Early Career Community Office (PSECCO) is hosting its second panel to discuss opportunities beyond academia for polar scientists.
