Events

We organize professional development events to directly support the polar early career community.  Events include online workshops and panel presentations as well as informal online meetings that allow for small-group discussions with professionals in the field.

Use the search tool to find events by category or go directly to pages describing some of our events with the buttons below. Check out our recorded professional development events on the PSECCO YouTube playlist or by clicking on a past event (recordings are available for only some events).

"How to Write a One-Pager" Workshop with NSF Office of Polar Programs (OPP) Part 2
Conferences/Workshops PSECCO event/opportunity Professional Development
-
MT

Join NSF Office of Polar Program (OPP) Program Officers (supported by PSECCO and IARPC Collaborations) to learn how to write a one-pager to summarize an idea you want to pitch to a funding agency. This workshop is open to polar early career scientists and you must have attended the first workshop to attend the second workshop. The parts of the workshop are as follows:

SCAR 2024 Open Science Conference: W20 - Synergistic approach to addressing DEI issues; learning from different contextual initiatives
Conferences/Workshops
-

Addressing 21st century change in Antarctica necessitates the broadest possible participation in research to find solutions to these ongoing challenges. This workshop will be focused on 1) how diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts vary across different international contexts; 2) exploring with those in attendance how we can learn from one another across countries about how to welcome all into the Antarctic research community; and 3) creating a plan for pursuing DEI action through coordinated, synergistic activities.

SCAR 2024 Open Science Conference: W5 - Antarctic early career research priorities to inform International Polar Year discussions – Workshop to develop first draft
Conferences/Workshops
-

With the next International Polar Year (IPY) just around the corner in 2032-2033, planning for determining which big scientific questions to prioritize within these discussions has already begun. Given that the established research priorities during the IPY will provide guidance for steering the research of early career researchers for the next 25+ years, it is important to make sure that input from the polar early career community is considered during these upcoming IPY discussions.

SCAR 2024 Open Science Conference: Parallel Session 48 - Is Antarctic science ready to help tackle urgent global issues? Perspectives on strengthening equitable science communities
Conferences/Workshops
-

The Antarctic sciences offer ample opportunities for doing international, transdisciplinary and collaborative research to seek answers to some of the biggest questions and challenges of our time within the region. At the same time, research has demonstrated that great science benefits from a diversity of thought, of people, and organizations with varied strengths.
