AGU 2025 Exploring Research Topics for the Fifth International Polar Year
Join PSECCO at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) meeting in New Orleans, LA, on Monday, December 15, 2025 at 1.00 pm to 2.00 pm CDT, for a town hall on the Fifth International Polar Year. Madison Payne, Events Coordinator for PSECCO, will be presenting on the Polar Early Career World Summit (PECWS) Synthesis Report and the recommendations from the early career community on IPY research planning in the years to come.
Session Description:
"Early planning is now underway for the Fifth International Polar Year (IPY5) that will be held in 2032-2033. International Polar Years are intended to bring together the international research community for coordinated, collaborative research to investigate questions that can only be addressed through large-scale efforts. This town hall will provide a forum for the research community to discuss potential key topics of focus for IPY5. This conversation will complement discussions held at a National Academies’ IPY5 workshop being held in May 2025 that focused on potential key research questions, recent advances and technologies, capabilities, the human capacity needed to conduct and support IPY5 research, and partnership and collaboration opportunities. Discussions are expected to span a wide range of disciplinary and interdisciplinary topics and all interested in discussing IPY5 are encouraged to attend."
