Sharing an update on the next phase of PSECCO
September 23, 2026
Hello PSECCO Community!
We are pleased to announce that the next iteration of the Polar Science Early Career Community Office (PSECCO) has been partially funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) for the next two years. While our goals of serving the polar early career community and responding to needs identified by early career researchers remain unchanged, some of the ways we will do this will look a bit different.
Key focus areas of this proposal include continuing support for mentorship programs, supporting the work of regional hubs that serve early career researchers in localized regions across the U.S., and offering online professional development opportunities. As part of this transition, PSECCO will no longer distribute conference travel grants or Polar Community Support Micro-Grants.
The community office needs a bit of time to attend to several programs that are currently ramping up, including support for the Interagency Arctic Research Policy Committee (IARPC) Collaborations Mentorship Program and the Navigating the New Arctic (NNA) Early Career Community of Practice for Ethical Engagement with Arctic Communities. Following that work, we will announce a community meeting to share updates on PSECCO's new scope of work and gather feedback on emerging needs, priorities, and opportunities within the polar early career community.
Another big thank you to everyone who supported PSECCO through our stopgap fundraiser. We greatly appreciate your support of the polar early career community and the encouragement you have shown throughout this period of transition.
We look forward to continuing to serve you.
