PSECCO Invites YOU to Attend a Community Meeting!
The Polar Science Early Career Community Office (PSECCO) invites you to attend one of our first two virtual community meetings on May 3rd at 1pm MT/3pm ET and June 9th, 11am MT/1pm ET. PSECCO is a new community-building and support effort for early career scientists focused on promoting accessibility, inclusion and diversity in the polar sciences, funded by NSF and housed at the University of Colorado. The community office will evolve to meet the needs and amplify the efforts of early career scientists in the polar community. To effectively do that, we would love to hear from you. The community meetings will include a short overview of the new office and the funding and opportunities that will be available through it, followed by small-group conversations and listening sessions to hear from those whose interests intersect the polar or high alpine regions.
Please note that our definition of polar community is broad – you do not need to be a field researcher; your work might span social, political, health, or physical sciences; you might be just starting out in your career journey or have been part of it for a while; and you might be looking for a supportive community but not yet found it. Basically, if you are still wondering if “polar community” includes you – it does!
Some questions you might want to think about:
How do you think PSECCO can best support, elevate and amplify the work and ideas of early career polar scientists?
How do we improve your sense of belonging in this community?
How do we expand our polar community to include and support those who have been historically excluded from it?
What do you want to see from PSECCO?
We are particularly interested in hearing from early career scientists across all disciplines of polar science, but we welcome the whole polar community to attend the meetings. At the meetings participants will be able to share ideas and get to know each other. We encourage more established polar scientists to join us, listen to the needs voiced by early career scientists, and consider ways that you can leverage your expertise to support those early in their careers.
Can’t make the meetings? We’d still love to hear from you! Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or find us on Twitter @polarsecco.
