Arctic Scientists in the Classroom: Principles for Designing Community-Centered Educational Programs is a free online mini-course for Arctic researchers interested in engaging students and communities through education and outreach. Led by Dr. Katie Spellman and Dr. Elena Sparrow, the course introduces evidence-based, community-centered approaches to Arctic STEM education, emphasizing culturally sustaining practices, co-production of knowledge, and the principles of Arctic pedagogy. Participants learn how to design meaningful educational experiences that center community priorities, Indigenous and local knowledge, and the 6 Rs of co-production: Relationship, Respect, Relevance, Reciprocity, Representation, and Responsibility. The course includes practical examples, reflection activities, outreach case studies, and a planning template to help researchers develop their own community-centered education and outreach programs.
