At the USPA’s Annual Meeting in December, the USPA announced the launch of the USPA Family Care Program (FCP). The FCP was created to support and recognize the additional financial and logistical burdens placed upon families within the permafrost community.

‘The Leadership Toolbox: Team-building and Navigating Conflict’ - Workshop #2 of the 2024 Leadership Workshop Series
On March 13, 2024, PSECCO hosted the second workshop of the 2024 Leadership Skills Workshop Series entitled ‘The Leadership Toolbox: Team-building and Navigating Conflict’. The recording for this event can be accessed here. In the recording you can learn strategies to leverage inevitable conflicts to improve team trust and cohesion from our experienced workshop facilitators and guest panelists (noted below). Tips related to how to improve communication across team roles, emphasizing the empowerment of every individual, regardless of their position were also shared. The workshop concluded with interactive role-playing scenarios to reinforce how to implement the tools for managing conflict.

‘Foundations in Leadership: Getting Back to the Basics’ - Workshop #1 of the 2024 Leadership Workshop Series
On February 28th, 2024, PSECCO hosted the first workshop of the 2024 Leadership Skills Workshop Series entitled ‘Foundations in Leadership: Getting Back to the Basics’. This workshop was a foundational training in various aspects of leadership intended to help early career researchers improve their leadership skills, to serve as a complement to research expertise. Folks in attendance evaluated successful leadership techniques, how to best harness individual leadership strengths, and how to develop a leadership mantra applicable in academia and the broader working world.

PSECCO's Spring 2024 Conference Travel Grant Applications Now Open!
The Polar Science Early Career Community Office (PSECCO)* Conference Travel Grant Program is now open for applications. Travel awards to attend and present polar-related work at a conference are open to polar early career scientists and educators. In this Spring 2024 funding cycle, PSECCO will be distributing $5,000 of awards. Applicants may request a reasonable amount of funding to support their travel to/from a conference, up to a value of $900 per person, with awards aimed at those with demonstrated financial need. An additional $100 is available for awardees who organize a PSECCO social event at the conference.
